The Method & The Instrument

The Method

Using proper anesthetic to minimize pain, along with the knowledge of knowing where and how to excise the tissue - we can ensure that we achieve optimal results for you or your child. The following video is a demonstration of how Dr. Richard Baxter (a prodigy in the field of tongue/lip tie releases) does the procedure for an infant.

The Instrument.

We use a an instrument called The Lightscalpel which is a CO2 laser. The Light Scalpel is a non-contact laser which means that the tip of our instrument does not have to touch the tissue in a tongue or lip tie.

The energy emitted from the laser literally heats up water molecules in the tissue, vaporizing them. The benefits of this approach are numerous, including less pain and bleeding as well as precision.

The benefits.

  • No General Anesthesia

We don’t need to use general anesthesia. For infants we use a numbing jelly. For children and adults we use local anesthetic.

  • Less Bleeding

When you “clip” or “slice” the tissue with scissors or a scalpel - the tissue will bleed. The CO2 laser causes minimal to no bleeding by vaporizing the tissue.

  • Improved Visualization

Without bleeding or charring of the tissue, the field is more visible which results in more accurate removal of the tissue.

  • Less Pain

With a diode laser, a heated tip is used to “melt” or “burn” the tissue away. The heat from the tip radiates deeper into the tissue, which results in more post-op pain. The CO2 laser works superficially, resulting in less post-op pain.
